Scrolly-telling with Mapbox: Covid Trail in the Philippines
A colleague introduced me to Mapbox. And just like that, I
was insanely hooked. Imagine this: I was working with Mapbox for hours on end, only leaving my seat to eat, drink or do some essential me stuff.
It's just so
exciting! Well new knowledge always excites me anyway. So there's that, and pretty visuals that are easy on the eye always give me this intense feeling of "kilig".
I started mapping the covid timeline of Metro Manila. Did that. But figured it would
be cooler to look at the timeline of the Philippines. A link to the code you may find here: https://github.com/avpresbitero/covidtrailph. I also screen-capped a video of my scrolly-telling thing coupled with a classic favorite song of mine: Fahrenheit Fair Enough by Telefon
Tel Aviv.
So for now, the descriptions are mostly cut-outs from online sources. I changed a bit of the
wording but not all of them. Some of the references are already there, but it's not that
orderly yet. I'll get back to this when I have time. I would want to change the color theme tho, but that means lots of javascript-ing. We sort of have a love-hate relationship ever since I started coding javascript when I was working at MRC. Then here it is again! There is no escaping JS.
